1/12 Concordia Wins MIAC Showdown With St. Thomas 2-1.
Concordia used a solid defense and timely scoring to down St. Thomas 2-1, and win the battle between the top two teams in the MIAC. The game featured the teams that battled for last season's MIAC playoff championship and finished 1-2 in the regular season. Both teams refused to let the other get close to the net and for the game there were only 31 total shots.

The Tommies opened the scoring first at 18:23 of the opening period when Luke Volk (Sr., Brooklyn Park) finished off his second goal of the season. St. Thomas held the one-goal advantage until 13:17 of the second period when Mike Gast (Sr., Fargo, ND)  blasted a shot past Tommie netminder Brad Moore (So., Lakeville) on the power play. Concordia received the game-winner at 12:56 of the third period when Jeff Styba (So., Shoreview, MN) finished off a crisp passing play from Andy Vix (Fr., Rochester, MN) and TonyCastaneda (So., Moorhead, MN) to beat Moore to the top shelf.

St. Thomas mounted a last-minute flurry but was denied by Concordia goalie Bryan Howard (Sr., Gold River, CA) who recorded his seventh win of the season. Howard made 18 stops on the night, while Moore had 13.

Concordia remains unbeaten in the MIAC with a mark of 6-0-1, they are 7-4-2 overall. St. Thomas slides to 2-3-2 in league play and 5-8-2 overall. The two teams finish the series tomorrow at 2:00.
