So. Fargo, ND Sinks 1 of her 12 points in the Cobbers 79-62 win over Augsburg. |
1/27 Concordia Sheds Augsburg
in 2nd Half, Wins 79-62.
Concordia steadily pulled away from visiting Augsburg to record a 79-62
victory. The Cobbers led by only four at halftime, but came out in the
second half and shot 55% to push the final margin of vicory to 17.
Red hot Brandi Myers' (Sr, Glyndon, MN) scored 22 points in the game
and finished a perfect 4-for-4 from three-point range. Myers has put up
more than 20 points in three consecutive games, averaging 24 points during
that stretch. Sara Spears (Sr., Spicer, MN) broke out of her mini-slump,
and recorded her fourth double-double of the season. She finished with
14 points and 11 rebounds.
The two teams came out and traded baskets throughout the first 10 minutes,
but then the Cobbers raced to a 27-14 lead. For the next six minutes Concordia
went scoreless, and the Auggies inched back into the game. Augsburg pulled
to within four at 27-23 before both teams hit on field goals before the
end of the half. Concordia made only one 3-point basket in the first 20
minutes and was held to 25 points.
In the second half Concordia was able to free up Myers on the wing, and she quickly drained three shots from behind the 3-point line. That outside presence opened up the inside game and Spears and teammate Kasey Bostow (Fargo, ND) were able to take advantage and score from underneath. Sarah Jacobson (Sr., Fargo, ND) continued her impressive play as she hit a drop-step scoop shot to give the Cobbers a 52-41 lead midway throught the second half, and the lead would never get under double-digits. Jacobson had a solid 10 points and 7 rebounds for the game.
Concordia continues its assault on the top of the MIAC, as they post their sixth consecutive win. The victory improves their MIAC record to 11-2, and their overall record to 13-3. Augsburg drops to 5-7 in the conference and 7-8 overall. The Cobbers turn around and play on Monday, January 29th at St. Olaf at 5:30.

Concordia vs. Augsburg Game Day Preview
The Headline: Cobbers Take Dead Aim in Second Half
The Teams:
Concordia (10-2 in the MIAC, 12-3 Overall)
