Sara Spears Sr. Spicer, MN Named Second Team Lutheran Brotherhood All-American.

Two Concordia women's basketball players were honored with Lutheran Brotherhood All-American Honors. Senior Brandi Myers (Glyndon, Minn.) was named First Team All-American and Sara Spears (Spicer, Minn.) was named Second Team All-American. 

Fifteen players from 21 NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA colleges were named to the team. 

“Lutheran colleges throughout the country are encouraging students to excel through sports and other activities, including academics,” said David Angstadt, chief marketing officer, Lutheran Brotherhood.  “These basketball stars are also achievers in the classroom and even give back to the community in their spare time.” 

The Lutheran Brotherhood Lutheran College All-American basketball teams honor outstanding players at Lutheran colleges across the country.  Athletes were nominated by sports information directors (SIDs) at their institutions. A  selection committee comprised of SIDs from Lutheran colleges, sports writers and Lutheran Brotherhood representatives determined the final team.

It is the second consecutive year that Myers has been honored by the Lutheran Brotherhood organization. Last year she was named to the Honorable mention All-American team.  It is the first year for Spears to be honored with the award. (More Details)

3/21 Brandi Myers Named to the D3Hoops All-American Team.
Senior guard  Brandi Myers (Glyndon, MN) was named third team All-American by D3Hoops.com. D3Hoops.com is the most comprehensive website devoted to NCAA Division III basketball, and annually  names a postseason All-American team.

It is the first time Myers has been named to an All-American team, and caps an outstanding season in which she was named to the MIAC All-Conference teamn for the third straight year and to the MIAC All-Defensive team for the second straight year. Myers also broke the 1,000 point barrier during the season, becoming the 16th player in Concordia women's basketball history to surpass that milestone. She also broke the school and conference mark for most 3-point baskets made in a career. Her total of 164 is two better than Cathy Johnson who played at Concordia from 1988 to 1992. 

Myers finishes her career first on the school's all-time 3-point list with 164, fifth on the all-time scoring list with 1,314 points and second on the all-time steals list with 291.

1/30 Concordia Senior Brandi Myers Named MIAC Player of the Week.
Concordia senior guard Brandi Myers (Sr, Glyndon, MN)  was named the MIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the second time in the month of January. Myers was also named player of the week for the first week in January. 

Brandi Myers averaged 24 points, 4.5 assists and 4 steals in leading Concordia to a 2-0 record last week. In Wednesday's game against Hamline she scored 26 points and was 7-for-11 from 3-point range, and 8-for-15 overall from the field. She also had five steals in the game. In Saturday's game versus Augsburg she sparked the Cobbers to 50 points in the second half. She was a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the 3-point line and 8-for-10 overall. For the week she shot an unbelievable 84% (11-for-13)  from 3-point range. She currently leads the MIAC in scoring and 3-point field goals, and is fifth in NCAA Division III in steals. 

Myers ranks ninth on the all-time scoring list for Concordia women's basketball with 1191 total points. She is also second on the school's all-time list in steals.

1/09 Brandi Myers Named MIAC Player of the Week.
Concordia College guard Brandi Myers (Sr, Glyndon, DGF High School) scored 48 points in two games last week. She had 29 points in Concordia's 94-67 win over St. Catherine's and 19 points in the Cobbers 71-58 loss to Carleton. In the game against St. Kate's Myers had 29 points and became the 16th player in Concordia women's basketball history to score 1,000 career points. In the loss to Carleton she had 19 points and eight steals. Myers currently leads Concordia in scoring.

11/07 Concordia Women's Basketball 2000-01 Preview.

Season Preview and Notes: 
Concordia will have a new look to the women's basketball team this year. From a new coach to a new style of play to new road uniforms, change is in the air in Moorhead. First year Coach Sara Cepek brings her energetic, infectious enthusiasm to the program hoping to lead the Cobbers back to the NCAA playoffs. The playoff streak was broken in 1996-97 when the team missed the playoffs for the first time in fifteen years, and the Cobbers haven't returned since. Cepek, a graduate of St. Cloud State, comes to Concordia from MSU-Mankato where she was an assistant last year. She will be looking to inject the Cobbers with an up-tempo style that has a strong emphasis on defense. She will have a great base to work with since Concordia returns their top four scorers, all of whom averaged over 10 points per game, and four of their top five rebounders from a year ago. Leading the charge for the Cobbers will be leading scorer Brandi Myers (Glyndon, MN) and leading rebounder Sara Spears (Sr., Spicer, MN). Both Myers and Spears were  repeat selections to the All-MIAC team last season, and Myers made Honorable Mention for the Lutheran Brotherhood's Lutheran College All-America Women’s basketball team. Joining the dynamic duo will be sophomore Kasey Bostow (Fargo, ND) and junior Mandy Berggren (Cokato, MN). Bostow, who had a terrific year as a freshman, averaged 10.7 points per game and 4.5 rebounds per game, and was second in the league in shooting percentage.  She was also named to the All-MIAC first year team. Berggren was named All-MIAC Honorable Mention and was the fourth member of the double-digit point club. 

The team will face a tough non-conference test early as they travel to Decorah, IA to play in the Luther Tip-Off Tournament where they will take on NCAA powerhouse UW-Oshkosh. Other highlights in the schedule include a late season showdown with MIAC power St. Ben's and a MIAC slate that allows the Cobbers to play five of their last seven games at home.

7/24 Concordia  Hires Assistant Women's Basketball Coach.
Troy Odegaard has been hired as assistant women's basketball coach.  Odegaard was the boy's assistant varsity coach at Lincoln Southeast High school in Lincoln, NE last year.  Before coaching at Southeast High he was an assistant coach for the men's team at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln from 1997-1999. He was part of the coaching staff who led the Cornhuskers to an NCAA tournament appearance in 1998 and the NIT tournament in 1999.  Odegaard was also a graduate assistant and assistant coach for the South Dakota State men's team from 1995 - 1997.  He received his undergraduate degree from Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD and his Master's degree from SDSU in Brookings, SD.

Odegaard will have additional teaching and administrative responsibilities in the physical education and athletic departments.
