2/27 Three Concordia Players
Earn MIAC Postseason Honors.
Three Concordia women's basketball players were honored with MIAC postseason
awards. Seniors Brandi Myers (Glyndon, MN) and Sara Spears (Spicer, MN)
were named First Team All-Conference, and Kasey Bostow (So., Fargo, ND)
was voted as the league's Sixth Player of the Year. Myers was also named
to the MIAC All-Defensive team, her second consecutive year for the honor.
It is the third consecutive year for Myers and Spears to receive the honor. The 2000-01 season was a record setting year for the two players as they both became members of the 1,000-point club for Concordia women's basketball. Myers ended her career with 1,314 points which places her fifth on the school's all-time scoring list. Spears finished with 1,148 points and she ends her career ninth on the scoring list.
Myers also set a new MIAC record for career 3-point shots made. She eclipsed fellow Cobber Cathy Johnson (1988-92) to accomplish the feat. Her mark of 164 is two better than Johnson's old mark of 162. She also missed setting the school record in career steals by just seven thefts. She finished her four years with 291 steals which fall short of the mark set by Krist Schultz (1989-93) at 298. Myers finished second in the league in scoring, averaging 17.14 points per game.
Spears finished the season tied for third in the MIAC in rebounding. She averaged eight rebounds per game in league play. She also put herself in the top ten in career rebounds at Concordia. Her four-year total of 759 is sixth on the school's all-time rebounding list. Despite playing inside for her career Spears quick hands helped her to add her name to the all-time steals list as well. She has 194 steals which places her sixth on the school's all-time career steals chart.
Bostow receives an MIAC postseason award for the second straight year. Last year she was named to the All-First Year team. She was among the league leaders in free throw percentage, and at one point in the season was ranked in the top five in the nation in that category. Her shooting percentage of 57% led the team and she finished third on the team in scoring, with a 10.2 points per game average.
