Cobbers Open Season With a Bang, Clobber St. Olaf 7-3.
Concordia used a three-goal third period to break open a penalty-infested game and clobber St. Olaf 7-3. The Cobbers received a pair of goals from senior Toby Schneider (Grand Forks, N.Dak.) and newcomer Josh Rogers (Grand Forks, N.Dak.) to post their opening win of the season. Goalie Jason Gregoire (Jr., Moorhead, Minn.) stopped 39 of the 42 shots he faced in picking up his first collegiate victory. The two teams combined for over 40 penalties in a game marred by two fights and five player disqualifications.

The Cobbers jumped on the board quickly, scoring two goals in the first five minutes of the game. Rogers picked up his first goal as a Cobber at the 3:39 mark, and then Schneider made it 2-0 almost one minute later when the Cobbers were on the power play. St. Olaf responded by scoring their first goal of the game ten seconds after Schneider's goal. Concordia finished off the scoring in the period when Schneider banged home his second of the game at 12:42.

In the second period the Oles scored goals at the 27 second mark and at 14:22 to tie the game at three before Andy Vix (So. Rochester, Minn.) added a short handed goal to give Concordia the lead for good.

Rogers, Shawn Kleven (Fr., Crookston, Minn.) and Treavor Peterson (Jr., Thief River Falls, Minn.) scored goals in the third period to help the Cobbers pull away and ice the victory.

The two teams play again tomorrow at 2:00.
