Cobbers Open the Season in Style, Hammer Northland (WI) 7-0.

Concordia scored four goals in a span of 19 minutes in the first half, and cruised to a 7-0 win over Northland (WI) in the opening game of the SJU tournament.
Junior Jerry Nathan (Fargo, N. Dak.) opened the scoring in the 15th minute when he slotted home his own rebound. It was the first of two goals that he would score on the day. Team newcomer Nwachukwu Chukwualoa (So., Lagos, Nigeria) scored his first collegiate goal in the 26th minute as the Cobbers started to pull away. First-year players Nick Peterson (Fargo, N.Dak.) and Sylvester Ndhlovu (Tema, Ghana) completed the quartet of first half goals.
In the second half Concordia continued to pound away at the Northland goal, outshooting the Lumberjacks 14-3 in the final frame. Nathan scored his second goal of the game at the 55:53 mark to put Concordia up 5-0. Andy Purdy (Sr., Mahtomedi, Minn.) and Rick Tungseth (So., Moorhead, Minn.) completed the scoring.
Sophomore defender Dan Ravenhorst (Albert Lea, Minn.) had three assists on the day and missed the opportunity for a five-point game when Northland goalie Doug Kriener stopped a penalty shot late in the game.
Kris Overby (Jr., Fargo, N.Dak.) played goal in the first half for the Cobbers and made one save, while Eric Dunn (Sr., Great Falls, Mont.) played the final 45 minutes, recording two saves. Kriener turned away 14 shots for Northland.
Concordia finishes the SJU tournament on Sunday when they play Concordia
University (WI) at 2:00pm.
