12/5 Concordia lost to St.
John's 77-71 here tonight in both team's MIAC
Opener.
The Cobbers trailed 45-30 at the half but closed the gap quickly in the second period. Concordia trailed 72-71 with 40 seconds left when Concordia missed the front end of a 1-1 free throw opportunity. St. John's came down and missed but got their offensive rebound and the Cobbers were forced to foul.
Concordia was led by Jim Gillhouse' 21 points. Mike Wrobel added 20. St. John's was led by Steve Bates' 29 points. Bates had 7 3-pointers, six in the first half. Pat Rothstein had 16 and Nate Guetter added 12.
St. John's is now 2-2, 1-0 in the MIAC. Concordia is 1-4, 0-1 in the MIAC. St. John's travels to Carleton Wednesday and Concordia is at Gustavus.

About the Cobbers
The Cobbers enter tonightâs game at 1-3 after losing to Moorhead
State and Crookson in their final non-conference games. Senior co-captain
Jim Gillhouse continues to lead the Cobber
attack. He had 23 points against the Dragons and 18 at Crookston.
Alex Bjork returned to the Cobber lineup Dec. 4th at Crookston after missing
most of the pre-season with a broken hand. Bjork had 8 points off
the bench at Crookston.
About the Johnnies
St. Johnâs enters tonightâs game with a 1-2 record in a tough non-conference
season. They opened the season with a 72-68 win over UW-La Crosse
and then lost to UW-Oshkosh (70-59) and lost at UW-River Falls 74-59.
The Johnnies are having to replace the graduated 7â0" Kipp Christianson and wing Jason Vogt. Those two All-MIAC players combined for 30 points and 12 rebounds per game last year. The Johnnies are getting good play from two outstanding returning starters, point guard Steve Bates and wing Nate Guetter. Guetter is averaging 12.7 points and Bates is averaging 10 points and nearly 4 assists per game. The Johnnies have also gotten solid performances from 6-7 center Martin Klinkhammer. He is averaging 11 points and had 20 points and 14 rebounds in the loss at River Falls.
