For Immediate Release: Damian Koshnick Named
Concordia-Moorhead Head Men’s Soccer Coach Koshnick takes over the position from Joe Larson, who coached the Cobbers for one season, and stepped down to spend more time with his family. Koshnick becomes only the fourth coach in the history program. “I am very excited to return to the school that has given me so many opportunities in life,” said Koshnick. A native of Fargo, N.D., Koshnick also teaches in the English Department at Concordia. He has been the assistant coach for the Fargo North boys’ high school team for the past two seasons. He will also be serving as an assistant coach for the Cobber women’s team during their upcoming trip to Brazil where the squad will play the Brazilian national squad. While in Brazil, Koshnick will spend time earning a coaching license at the Brazil/United States Coaching Academy (BRUSA). “The combination of Damian’s passion and soccer knowledge made him the top candidate for the job,” stated Papenfuss. “One of the real assets for Damian is his ability to be on campus during the day because of his position in the English department. This will help him get to know the players on a personal basis and he will be able to handle the day-to-day aspects of being a head coach at the college level much more easily.” Koshnick played at Concordia for the 1994 season before deciding to concentrate on his studies at the college. He earned his bachelor’s degree in 1994 while majoring in English and Philosophy. He earned his master's degree in Teaching English Composition from Humboldt State University (Calif.) in 2003. Koshnick played high school soccer at Fargo North where he was a three-year all-state award winner and the captain of the Spartans in his senior year. He has played for the St. Paul Rebel’s men’s club team that won the Wilson Cup in 1999 and the Humboldt Hicks that won the California 1st division city-wide league in 2000-01. While attending graduate
school at Humboldt State University, Koshnick organized and coached the
Arcata-Eureka California Youth Development Camps from 2000-02. After returning
to the Fargo-Moorhead area in 2003 he served as the assistant boys’ high
school coach at Fargo North.
