Cobber Basketball Hosts Annual "Buck" Day Celebration.
The Concordia men's and women's basketball teams will host the annual "buck" day on Saturday, January 24. The Concordia basketball teams will take on Gustavus in the feature events of the festivities. The women's team will host the Gusties at 1:00pm. The Cobber women have won four consecutive games, while the Gusties are currently one spot ahead of the Cobbers in the MIAC standings. The men's team will play league-leading Gustavus at 3:00pm. The Cobber men have won five straight games and are currently in third place in the MIAC.

Along with the basketball game, the swimming pool will be open from 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for all kids and parents who wish to swim in addition to watching the games.  Also, a video movie theater will be set up for all the kids in the South Gym of Memorial Auditorium.  The concession stand will sell pizza by the slice, hot dogs, nachos, pretzels and other goodies. 

The cost for all events is only $1.00 if you go to www.cord.edu/dept/alumni/buckday.html, print out the information page and bring it to the game.

- The Concordia menās basketball team has won five consecutive games for the first time since the 1996-96. The Cobbers are currently 7-3 in the MIAC and 10-4 overall. The 10 wins mark the most wins for the Cobbers in a season since the 2000-01 season when they finished the year with 15 victories. Last year Concordia finished with nine wins overall and an 8-12 mark in conference play.

- The Cobbers are currently second in the MIAC in field goal percentage. They are shooting 49.7%(242-for- 487) from the field in their first 10 games of the conference season. The team is led by sophomore Jason Miller (Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead HS) who is fourth in the league in field goal percentage. He is shooting 60%(33-for-55) from the field.

- Head Coach Duane Siverson recently won his 300th game at Concordia. Siverson was 165-38 as the womenās coach from 1984 to 1991. In his 12 seasons as menās coach he has posted 140 wins. He now possesses a 305-207 all-time record at Concordia.

- The Concordia womenās basketball team has won four straight games, and seven of their last eight. The team has compiled an 8-3 record at the end of the first half of play in the MIAC. They are currently 10-4 overall. The Cobbers boast a perfect 5-0 record at home this season. The last time that a Concordia womenās team went undefeated at home in a season was the 1987-88 season when they won the national championship.

- Mandy Pearson (Jr., Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins HS) currently leads the MIAC in assists. She is averaging 6.73 assists per game in her first 11 conference games. She has led the league in assists from her first year in maroon and gold. She finished her first season by being among the national leadings in assists. She is currently 19th in the nation in assists.

- Concordia is second in the MIAC in field goal percentage. The Cobbers are shooting 45.2%(299-for-661) from the field in the first half of the MIAC season. This is a decisive improvement from last year when they finished the season ninth in the league with a 38.6% shooting mark.

- The Concordia menās hockey team is winless in their last 14 games. The team won their first game of the season, head coach Steve Baumgartnerās 200th career victory as coach of the Cobbers, and have not won since. It is the longest winless streak since the team lost 16 straight games in the 1995-96 season.

- Junior forward Shawn Kleven (Crookston, Minn./Crookston HS) is leading the team in scoring with 12 points (6 goals/6 assists). He has scored a goal in three straight games. He has also tallied a goal in four of the teamās five games since the Christmas break. 

- Senior goaltender Ryan Gill (Watrous, Sask./Winston HS) currently leads the MIAC in saves. He has recorded 225 (37.5/game) saves in his first six games in league play, and 400 (33.3/game) in 12 games overall.

- The Concordia womenās hockey team holds the rare distinction for a Concordia athletic team of having a better road record than a home mark. The Cobbers are 0-4 at the Moorhead Sports Center and 3-1 on the road. That is good news for Concordia since they will finish the MIAC by playing eight of the final 12 games away from Moorhead.

- Senior center Lindsay Kurtis (Phoenix, Ariz./Paradise Valley HS) needs 17 more points to break the schoolās all-time scoring record. Kurtis currently has 122 points in her career and is chasing Katie Jacques who tallied 138 points from 1999-2003.

- The Concordia womenās swimming and diving team recently beat St. Thomas in a dual meet for the first time in four seasons. The Cobbers came away with a 133-97 victory over the Tommies by winning six events and sweeping both relays. The win was the first dual meet victory of the season for Julie Lucierās squad.

- Cobber junior diver Emily Hall (Minot, N.Dak./Minot HS) returned to the team after spending the first semester studying in New Zealand. She was named the MIAC Womenās Diver of the Year last season for finishing first in the 3-meter diving competition and second in the 1-meter at last yearās conference championship meet. She picked up where she left off last season by winning the 1-meter diving event at the dual meet with St. Thomas. Hall had the luxury of training with the Dutch national diving coach while she was in New Zealand last semester.

- Concordia sophomore Lee Rahrlien (Graceville, Minn./C-G-B HS) is undefeated in his first four matches since the Christmas break. He recently went 3-0 at the Terry Haws Dual Tournament held at St. Johnās over the weekend. He only wrestled in three out of the possible four matches because he came down with a bout of food poisoning after drinking some spoiled milk just before the tournament.

- Ed Oehlers (Jr., North Branch, Minn/North Branch HS) recently moved to the 197-pound weight class and has responded by posting a 4-1 record. Oehlers was 3-1 at the Terry Haws Dual Tournament and also defeated Jacob Scott of the UM-Morris in Concordiaās dual meet win over the Cougars.

- Doug Perryās team will host Northern State in a dual match on Wednesday, January 21 at 7:00pm. The Cobbers will finish off their dual meet schedule for 2003-04 when they host Jamestown College on Wednesday, February 4 at 7:00pm.
