3/17 Mandy Pearson Named to the D3hoops.com
West Region Second Team.
Gustavus' Angie Peterson was named to the All-Region First Team, while Megan Vig of Carleton also garnered second team honors. Afton Hanson of Macalester and Selina Theisen from Augsburg were named to the All-Region Third Team. Players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools. The ballot was then distributed to regional SIDs, who voted for 10 players. Pearson was named the Most Valuable Player in the MIAC earlier in the month. She was also voted to the MIAC All-Conference Team. It is the second consecutive season that she has been named to the all-conference team, and the third year that she has been honored with conference postseason awards. She helped lead the Cobbers to their best record since the 1990-91 season. The team finished with a 21-7 mark and made it all the way to the MIAC playoff championship game, a first in school history. Concordia also set a school record for biggest improvement in one season. The Cobbers improved a full seven games from the 2002-03 season. Pearson finished the season by being ranked in the top 35 in the nation in three different statistical categories. She was eighth in assists per game (6.3), 29th in steals per game (3.5) and 32nd in free throw percentage (82.3%). She led the MIAC in assists (6.50 apg), was second in steals (3.73 spg) and 12th in overall scoring (13.7 ppg). She was also third in free throw percentage and fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.21). (More) 3/05 Mandy Pearson Named Conference
MVP; Four Others Receive Postseason Honors.
Pearson was also voted to the MIAC All-Conference Team. It is the second consecutive season that she has been named to the all-conference team, and the third year that she has been honored with conference postseason awards. Joining Pearson in the parade of conference postseason winners were Debbie Slack (Sr., Evansville, Minn.), who was named to the MIAC All-Defensive Team, and Annie Keeley (Fr., Grafton, N.Dak.), who garnered MIAC All-First Year Team honors. Slack, Keeley, Beth Drager (Sr., Wood Lake, Minn./Lakeview HS) and Jamie Visness (Jr., Hallock, Minn./Kittson Central HS) were all named to the MIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention Team. Pearson becomes the first Concordia player to win MVP honors since Michelle Thykeson won the award in 1990. She becomes only the fourth player in school history to receive league MVP honors. She joins Jessica Rahman (Beachy), Jillayn Quaschnick and Thykeson in the elite club of Cobber athletes to win the MVP award. She was also third in free throw percentage (82.3%) and fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.21). 2/28 Frigid First Half Dooms Cobbers
in 62-40 MIAC Championship Loss to Carleton.
The loss ends Concordia's best season in over 10 years. The Cobbers finish the year with a 21-7 mark, which is the most wins in a single season since the 1990-91 campaign. The team also advanced to the MIAC Championship game for the first time in school history. Carleton wins their fourth consecutive MIAC playoff championship, and earns the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament which begins next week. The Knights are now 24-3 on the season. Mandy Pearson (Jr., Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins HS) was the only Concordia player to score more than seven points in the game, as the Cobber offense was limited to only 17.5% (10-for-57) field for the game. Pearson was 2-of-13 from the floor and 1-of-7 from 3-point range. Jamie Visness (Jr., Hallock, Minn./Kittson Central HS) managed to score seven points and was an ice-cold 3-of-12 from the floor. Senior Debbie Slack (Sr., Evansville, Minn.) grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and was held to only two points. Concordia did a great job limiting the Carleton offense, and team leader Megan Vig, who scored 28 points the last time the two teams met. Vig was held to 13 points on a 4-of-14 shooting afternoon from the floor. As a team, the Knights shot only 39.2% (20-for-51) from the floor but connected on 7-of-11 (63.6%) of their shots from 3-point range. Carleton also turned the ball over 23 times. Katie Freeman was the only player on the floor that was able to get her shots to consistently go through the basket. She finished with 13 points and was 5-of-7 from the floor and 3-of-3 from behind the arc. Freeman collected a team-high 10 rebounds to record the first double-double of her career. 2/26 The College Sporting News

Her biggest contribution came in the Cobbers' 77-76 overtime win over nationally-ranked Saint Benedict when she hit the game-winning 3-point basket with under one minute left to play in overtime. With the two victories, the Cobbers move into a tie for third place in the MIAC and extend their winning streak to eight games - the team's longest since the 2000-01 season. Against the Blazers, Keeley scored 14 points, collected five rebounds and had two assists. She was 3-for-5 from 3-point range and 4-for-7 overall from the floor. In Saturday's 60-39 win over Macalester, she scored a game-high 21 points and went 4-for-5 from behind the arc. She finished the game 7-for-9 from the floor and grabbed three rebounds and had three assists. She was also part of the defensive unit that surrendered only 10 first half points to the Scots and 39 points overall. The 10 points allowed for a single half is the fewest points allowed in a single half by the Cobbers since the sports information department started keeping track of those statistics in 1990. 1/31 Cobbers Keep On Rolling, Down Scots
