Women's Golf
Cobbers are NCAA National Runners-Up at NCAA
Division III National Golf Tournament.
Concordia completed a successful national tournament
by finishing in 2nd place. Their final total score of 1336 was 20 strokes
ahead of third place finisher Rhodes College. The runner-up finish is the
highest since 1992, when they also brought home the 2nd place trophy. The
Cobbers were led by top ten finishers Kari Weidner
(Sr., Fargo) and Maria Amlen (Jr., Stockholm,
Sweden) who tied for ninth place with a total score of 328.
Men's Golf
The Concordia Men's Golf team placed second at the UND Invitational
behind UND. Concordia was lead by Mike Hagen
(So., Moorhead) and Zach Hanson (Sr. Barrett)
each with scores of 72. The team placed 11th at the Gustavus Spring Invitational.
Men's Track
The Concordia Track team finished 2nd in the MIAC Outdoor Championships,
their best finish since 1975. Micah Benson (Sr.,
Moorhead) was named GTE Academic All-American for the second time. Concordia
finished the year ranked 9th in the nation in the USTCA
Power Rankings. Benson, along with Joe
Schmidgall (So., Morris), Adam Strainer
(Jr., Helena, MT), and Chris Goebel
(Jr., Albany) qualified for the NCAA National Meet. Strainer finished 6th
in the decathlon, while Schmidgall finished 14th in the high jump.
Women's Track
Concordia finished the year ranked 6th in the nation in the Final
USTCA Power Rankings. The team placed 2nd in the MIAC Outdoor Championships.
Concordia was represented at the NCAA Division III track meet by
Maria
DeBoer (Sr., Pine Island) in the Discus and Shot Put, Sara
Grineski (Jr., Moorhead) in the 100 & 400 Meter Hurdles and
Mariah
Mougey (Fr., Enderlin, ND) in the Discus. DeBoer finished
8th
in the Discus at the NCAA National Meet. Her throw of 136' 1" in
the prelims qualified her for the final where she finished with the
same distance. It is the third straight year she has earned All-American
status in the Discus. Grineski was chosen for the MIAC Most Outstanding
Performance for her performance in the 100 hurdles (14.27) at the MIAC
Outdoor Meet.
Softball posted 22-19 record finishing 3rd
in the MIAC.
Concordia's Erin Gunderson (So.,
Princeton) was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA)
All-Midwest
third team. This is the second year in a row Gunderson has been named
to the All-Region team. Along with the All-Region award, Gunderson has
been named MIAC All-Conference along with Cindy
Frey. Frey was in the top 10 in the league in RBI's, homeruns and
doubles. Gunderson, who rewrote Concordia's pitching record book for the
second straight season, was second in the league in strikeouts with 74
and fifth in the league in E.R.A. with a 0.72 mark. Laura
Danielson (Sr., Bemidji) and Jill
Pontius (So., Eagle Bend) were named All-Conference
Honorable Mention.
Baseball posted 16-17 record finishing 6th
in the MIAC.
Concordia's Clayton Horgen (Sr.,
Fergus Falls) continued to gather postseason honors by being named to the
NCAA
Division III All-Midwest Region Baseball Team. Along with the All-Region
award, Horgen has been named MIAC All-Conference and Team MVP. This is
the second year in a row Horgen has been named to both the All-Region team
and the All-Conference team.
Women's Tennis
The Concordia Women's Tennis team placed 10th at the MIAC Conference
Meet, lead by Angie Parker (Fr.,
Redwood Falls) and Miriam Wilhelm
(Fr., Princeton).
Men's Tennis
Concordia's coaches Bob Nick and
Dave Lester were honored as Conference Coaches of the Year at the Conference
meet. The Concordia Men's Team finished 5th at the conference meet, lead
by Jonah Beckermann (So. Detroit
Lakes) and Andy Bakke (So. Grand
Forks).
