The 2000 Power Bowl, the 78th meeting between Concordia and MSU-Moorhead, sponsored by Moorhead Public Service and Missouri River Energy Services. Our Power Bowl sponsors, in addition to their contributions to the Concordia general scholarship fund and the MSU Athletic Scholarship fund, are sponsoring several awards in connection with this game.
"Power Surge of the Game"
A "Power Surge of the Game" award, along with a $500 donation to scholarships,
will be presented to the team that turns in the best play of the game.
MSU-Moorhead punter Cory Schmidgall turned in the play of the game on Saturday
when he boomed a 77 yard punt with 2:20 left in the 2nd quarter.
Most "Electrifying Players of the Game"
Plaques will be awarded to the game's most Electrifying Offensive Player
and Electrifying Defensive
Player. The most Electrtrifying Offensive Player went to the Dragon's
running back Justin Ellevold. He rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns.
He also scored, what proved to be, the decisive point by adding the extra
point on the MSU-Moorhead's last toucdown in the fourth quarter. The Most
Electrifying Defensive Player went to Concordia's Dan Tollefson (Sr., Madison
MN, Lac Qui Parle Valley H.S.).
Tollefson had two interceptions in the game and also combined for five
tackles.
"Touchdowns for Charity"
Power Bowl sponsors Moorhead Public Service and Missouri River Energy
Services will present a $100
check to a charity chosen by the scoring team for each touchdown. Concordia
has chosen Habitat for Humanity as the recipient of their donation, and
MSU-Moorhead will be playing for The Roger Maris Foundation.
"Power Bowl Traveling Trophy"
The presentation of the Power Bowl Traveling Trophy to the winning
team will take place in front of the stadium stands immediately after the
game.

DRAGONS OPEN 2000 SEASON AGAINST COBBERS SATURDAY
DRAGON FOOTBALL FACT SHEET
GAME # 1- - - Minnesota State University Moorhead vs. Concordia College on Saturday, September 2, at 1:35 at Alex Nemzek Stadium (5000) in Moorhead.
RECORDS- - - Saturday’s game marks the season opener for both teams. Moorhead State Minnesota finished 7-4 overall and 5-3 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference last fall. Concordia College finished 6-4-0 overall and 6-3-0 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
COACH- - - Ralph Micheli begins his eighth season as head coach at Moorhead State with a 41-29-2 record. Micheli is 70-92-2 overall in 14 seasons as head coach at Tarkio College (MO), Sul Ross State University (TX) and MSUM, and 5-2-0 vs. Concordia. Jim Christopherson, in his 32nd season as head coach at Concordia, is 214-95-7 overall and 15-14-2 vs. MSUM . Dragon varsity assistants include Robin Abraham (inside linebackers), Tom Eldred (runningbacks), Jim Klein (defensive line), Dan Lind (defensive coordinator/secondary, Kent MacLeod (offensive coordinator), and John Woleske (outside linebackers).
TELEVISION- - - Saturday’s game will be telecast over KVLY-TV with Dan Hammer handling the play-by-play.
BROADCAST- - - Saturday’s game will be broadcast over Star 1660 AM with Steve d’Eustachio handling the play-by-play and Donn Groth the color. The game will also be broadcast over the Ticket 1280 AM with Larry Knutson handling the play-by-play.
SERIES- - - MSU Moorhead and Concordia meet for a 78th
time in a series that dates to 1920 and the presidential reign of Woodrow
Wilson. Concordia holds a 44-21-12 series advantage, although MSUM has
won five of the last seven games.
