2002 MIAC All-Conference Teams

Eight Cobber Players and Coach Earn MIAC Post-Season Honors.

Six Cobber football players and head coach Terry Horan all received MIAC post-season honors. Derek Flann (Sr., Lake Lillian, Minn.), Ryan Hebrink (Jr., Sacred Heart, Minn.), John Holt (Grafton, N.Dak.), Josh Dietz (Glencoe, Minn.) and Josh Vickerman (Jr., Alexandria, Minn.), Bobby Clark (Seeley Lake, Mont.), Barry Bennett (Sr., Long Prairie, Minn.) and Brian Westby (Spicer, Minn.) were all named either first or second team all-conference. Hebrink, Holt, Flann, Dietz and Vickerman were named to the MIAC All-Conference First Team, while Clark, Bennett and Westby were named to the MIAC All-Conference Second Team. Flann was also awarded the Stam Award which, annually, goes to the conference's top offensive or defensive lineman. Head Coach Terry Horan was named MIAC Coach of the Year.
This year marked the first season that players were chosen by position and not by overall selection. 15 players from offense, 15 defensive players and three special teams players comprised each all-conference team.
It is the second consecutive year that Hebrink, Clark, Flann and Bennett have earned MIAC postseason honors. Last year Hebrink and Clark were named to the All-MIAC First Team, while Flann earned second team honors and Bennett was named to the all-conference honorable mention team.
Horan earned coach of the year honors in only his second year at the
helm of the Cobbers. He guided Concordia to a 7-1 finish in the MIAC which
was good for second place. The 7-1 finish marked a three and a half game
improvement over last year's record. It was the biggest single season turnaround
in the league since Augsburg had a six game upswing from the 1996 season
to their MIAC championship season of 1997.
