(ST. PAUL)---Six Concordia women's hockey players earned MIAC postseason honors. Katie Jacques (Sr., Phoenix, Ariz./Corona Del Sol HS), Sandra Rydén (Helsingborg, Sweden/Tycho Brake HS), Lindsay Kurtis (Tempe, Ariz./Paradise Valley HS) and Bridgette Richter (Long Beach, Cali./Los Alamitos HS) all were named to the MIAC All-Conference Team, while Shyla Wilson (Sr., Cohasset, Minn./Grand Rapids HS) and Lindsay Czarnecki (Riverside, Cali.,/Riverside Poly HS) were named to the MIAC Honorable Mention Team. Richter was also named to to the MIAC's All-Rookie Team.
Concordia set school records this season for most wins in a season and highest finish in conference play. The Cobbers finished the regular season with a 14-7-1 overall record and tied for second place in the MIAC. The team made the league playoffs for the second consecutive season and ended the year earning votes in the USCHO national poll. Currently the team is ranked fourth in the West Region in the Pairwise Power Rankings.
It is the third straight year that Jacques has been placed on the MIAC All-Conference Team. It is the second time that Rydén and Kurtis have been awarded all-conference honors. Rydén was named to the team in the 2000-01 season and Kurtis earned all-conference honors last season. Wilson finishes her four-year career by being named to the all-conference team twice and the all-conference honorable mention team twice. It is the first postseason honors for both Czarnecki and Richter.
Jacques led the team in the scoring for the second consecutive season. She finished the regular season with 37 points (23g/14a) which placed her fourth in the conference. She led the MIAC in game-winning goals with five. Her 138 career points (87g/51a) is an all-time school record.
Rydén was one of the leading factors in the team's success. Playing through a season-long back injury, she solidified the defense for the Cobbers and helped the team post a school-record 2.57 goals against average. She was fifth on the team in scoring with 19 points (6g/13a) and ranked fourth in the MIAC in scoring by a defenseman. She has 93 career points (43g/50a) in her four years of playing as a full varsity team for the Cobbers.
Kurtis was second on the team in scoring with 34 points (16/g18a). She was sixth in the league in overall points, and was seventh in the MIAC in both goals and assists. She broke the 100-point career scoring barrier earlier this year, and has now totaled 116 points (45g/71a) in her first three years at Concordia.
Richter's emergence in the middle of the season helped give the Cobbers three dynamic scoring threats. She led the team in assists 21 which is the second highest total in school history. She was seventh in the MIAC in scoring with 33 points (15g/18a), fourth in assists, second in shorthanded goals (3) and third in scoring by a first-year player.
Wilson, the Cobber's mainstay in net, was able to get much-needed rest this season. With sophomore Jamie Savage (Apple Valley, Minn./Rosemount HS) being groomed to take Wilson's place after this season, she was able to concentrate on helping Concordia to their record-setting finish. Although her numbers were down from previous years, Wilson still posted a goals against average under 3.00 and a save percentage in the 90's. She finished the year with a 2.61 goals against average and a .915 save percentage. Her seven season victories places her third in the conference. She has currently played 3,931 minutes in a Cobber uniform, has posted an unbelievable 2,338 saves and earned 33 victories.
Czarnecki is the final member of the Cobber women's team to earn postseason honors. She had a breakout season in her sophomore year at Concordia. After scoring only seven points as a freshman, she totaled 16 points (10g/6a) this year.
