Resuscitated Cobbers Beat Macalester 76-68 After Being Flatlined in Second Half. 
ST. PAUL-- With 5:51 left to play in the game, Concordia's basketball life was showing a flatline. The Cobbers had just watched a 22-point lead disappear into thin air in the manner of 10 minutes and were badly in need of resuscitation. Like an emergency room doctor wielding shock paddles, senior Soren Nelson (Twin Valley, Minn.) came to the rescue of the Cobbers' playoff hopes by scoring seven points in the final five minutes and shocking Concordia into a 19-8 run to end the game. The Cobbers escaped with a 76-68 victory over the Scots, and in the process pull one full game ahead of Macalester for fifth place in the MIAC.

Concordia is now 9-6 in conference play and 11-9 overall. The victory gives the Cobbers the series sweep for the season over Macalester. That marks the first time since the 1996-97 season that Concordia has swept the Scots during the year. The victory is also fifth in the last six games.

Macalester loses for only the second time in the last six games. The Scots slide to 8-7 in league play and 9-11 overall.

Keith Eckhoff (Jr., Alexandria, Minn.) scored 17 points in the first half for Concordia but then cooled off in the second half and finished with a team-high 23 points. His biggest basket of the game came in the final two minutes of the game when he hit a 3-point basket to give the Cobbers a four-point lead at 70-66. Nelson capped his night by scoring 18 points and grabbing a team-high six rebounds. He was 7-of-8 from the free throw line including two clutch foul shots that cut Macalester's lead from three down to one with just under five minutes to play. 

Mark Dixon (Jr., St. Paul, Minn.) added 12 points and, like Nelson, a team-high six rebounds. Jason Miller (Jr., Moorhead, Minn.) was the final member of the starting five for Concordia that factored in double figures in scoring. Miller did not miss a shot in the game as he went 4-of-4 from the field and finished with 10 points.

Erik Jackson unleashed his scoring potential in the second half for Macalester. The All-MIAC guard was the catalyst behind the Scots' second half run and finished the game with 26 points. He was 5-of-11 from behind the arc and 8-of-18 from the field. Tommy Conboy was the only other Macalester player in double figures. After leading the Scots against Concordia in the first game of the series with 19 points, Conboy was limited to 10 points in the rematch due to foul trouble.

Concordia will play at Carleton on Saturday, February 5 at 3:00pm in the second half of the Cobber women's and men's basketball doubleheader. Both games can be heard live on 1280AM "The Fan" radio in the Fargo-Moorhead area and via the internet at www.gocobbers.com.
