St. Mary's Multi-Event Queen Reigns
in MIAC Pentathlon as She Breaks MIAC Record!

Ashley
Dingels reestablished herself as the queen of the MIAC multi-events
as she cruised to the victory in the MIAC Pentathlon held at Concordia
College. Her total of 3,317 points sets a new MIAC record. It also betters
the Olson Forum record and narrowly breaks her own St. Mary's school mark.
The old MIAC mark was 3,274 points held by Colleen Landwehr of St.
Thomas. The Olson Forum record was 3,249 points, which was set by Annie
Goodson of the University of Mary and Dingels' school record was 3,306
which she set earlier this season.
Dingels now owns both the
MIAC indoor pentathlon record and the outdoor heptathlon record. She set
the heptathlon record the last time an MIAC championship meet was held
at Concordia. She won the 2003 outdoor meet with a total of 4,641 points.
She won both the 2003 pentathlon and heptathlon before sitting out most
of last season with a knee injury.
Dingels started slow, finishing
10th in the 55 meters. For the next three events she finished either first
or second and steadily pulled away from the competition. She won the high
jump with a height of 5-5.75, which gave her a total of 818 points - her
best event of the competition. Her second place finish in the long jump
netted her only 538 points, the fewest of the five events. She rounded
out the event by finishing the 800 meters in a time of 2:33.38, which gave
her 651 points.
Concordia's Nicole Plante
ran a personal best in the 55 meter hurdles but and maxed out in fourth
place in the high jump before falling off the pace in the shot put. She
rebounded by winning the final two events and finishing with a score of
3,191 points. That total is a new school record for Plante as she finished
second in the pentathlon for the second consecutive year.
All told, four school records
were broke in the event. Besides Dingels and Plante, St. Ben's athlete
Meghan
Orgeman netted 3,109 points to break the Blazers school mark by 289
points. Orgeman finished third in the event, five points ahead of
Dana
Luiken from Hamline, who set a Piper school record. Luiken's total
of 3,104 points broke her own school mark of 2,799 points, which she set
this season.
The rest of the MIAC Indoor
Track and Field Championship Meet will start on Friday, March 4 at 3:00pm
and continue through Saturday, March 5.
