The baseball team returned to winning form this year and was a strong contender in the MIAC.

Coach Don "Bucky" Burgau said the Cobbers were in the championship race right up to the end, but they lost a couple of important games. The team finished with an 11-7 record and a fourth-place standing in the conference.

"Overall, I was very satisfied with the season," Burgau said "We came off a bad season last year and had a young team this year."

Second baseman Scott Oeffling '88, Delano, Minn., led the team in batting. He finished with a .405 average and set a new school record of 47 base hits. Oeffling was named to the all-conference team and was also voted Most Valuable Player for the season.

Jay Sannes '90, St. Cloud, Minn., pitched a record 17 innings and finished the season with six saves. Burgau said this year's team was young and the season itself was a good stepping stone for next year.
