Gets 2nd in MIAC

After winning MIAC titles 1995 and 1996 with veteran teams, head coach Jim Cella took a young 1997 menâs soccer team and built them into another contender. The Cobbers finished 12-5 overall, went 7-3 in the MIAC to tie for second, and just missed a second consecutive invitation to the NCAA

The Cobbers were led by two senior forwards, Todd Hashbarger (Fargo) and Jim Stone (Fridley). Hashbarger set nearly every Cobber assist record during his career. He was named the MIACâs Most Valuable Player in a vote by league coaches. He also earned All West Region honors for asecond time. Hashbarger finished his career with 99 points, including 47 assists (a school record). Hashbarger recorded 17 assists this season (also a school record) and led the MIAC in points (21) and assists (9).

Stone was second in team scoring with 8 goals and 5 assists and earned honorable mention All-MIAC.

Underclassmen Eric Singer ('00, Plymouth) and Josh Spaulding ('00, Minnetonka) earned first team All-MIAC honors.

Three Cobber sophomores earned Academic All-MIAC honors:
Micah Benson ('00, Moorhead), Chad Fancher ('00, Burnsville), and Will Manke ('00,Vienna, VA).
