- The Concordia men’s basketball team continues to be among the nation’s elite when it comes to shooting percentage. As of January 23, the Cobbers were the top team in Division III in 3-point field goal percentage (46.2%). Concordia also ranked second in field goal percentage (53.4%). The Cobbers are second in the MIAC in free throw percentage (73.2%). Last year they finished ninth in the nation in free throw percentage.

- Concordia junior Keith Eckhoff (Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) continues to lead the MIAC in scoring in overall games. He currently is averaging 21.4 points per game. He is also first in 3-point field goal percentage (52.9%) and fifth in free throw percentage (79.8%). As of January 23, he was ranked second in the nation in 3-point percentage and 17th in points per game.

- Concordia is 7-1 at home this year in conference games. In the past two seasons, the Cobbers have amassed a 15-4 record in Memorial Auditorium. Concordia is currently 8-6 in conference play and tied for fifth place in the MIAC. If the Cobbers can earn one of the six conference playoff spots, it would mark the first time since the 1996-97 season that Concordia has made the playoffs in consecutive years.

In the past two seasons, Concordia has built up a 19-2 record in the first month of the year. They started 2005 by posting a 9-1 record and are currently tied for second place in the MIAC. The Cobbers' overall record is 13-4, which marks the 31st consecutive season that the Cobbers have recorded at least 10 wins in a season.  - Concordia senior point guard Mandy Pearson (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins HS) continues to be among the top players in the country in assists per game. She is currently ranked third in all of NCAA Division III in assists per game (6.9). She is coming off a stretch of four games, all Cobber victories, where she averaged 8.5 assists. She led the nation in assists in her freshman season, finished 35th her sophomore year and last season was ninth. She currently leads the MIAC in assists (7.50 apg), steals (3.29 spg) and free throw percentage (82.7%) and is third in the league in scoring (17.5 ppg).

- The Concordia men’s hockey team won its last three games. It is the first three-game winning streak since the beginning of the 2002-03 season when they won four straight. The Cobbers are currently 3-5 in league play and only two points out of the fifth, and final, playoff spot in the conference. If Concordia can make the playoffs it would be the sixth time in the past seven years that the Cobbers would earn a postseason berth.

- Concordia freshman goaltender Mike Dowers (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) became the first Cobber player to earn MIAC Player of the Week honors since November of 2002 when Aaron Marsh was honored with the award. Dowers topped 64 of the 67 shots he faced in Concordia's two-game sweep over Hamline. In the Cobbers' 4-1 win on Friday, Dowers turned aside the final 28 shots he faced to help Concordia win for only the second time in the past six games. He did not allow a goal after the Pipers had tied the game at 1-1 at the 3:46 mark of the second period. On Saturday, he made 21 saves and shut down Hamline in the third period after the game was tied at 2-2 after two periods.

Dowers currently ranks third in the MIAC in save percentage (91.3%).

She has scored two of the Cobbers’ four game-winners this season. She is also seventh in freshman scoring (10 pts.).  - The Concordia women’s hockey team is the fourth least penalized team in NCAA Division III. The Cobbers are only averaging 8.4 penalty minutes per game. Trinity College (Conn.) leads the nation in fewest penalty minutes taken per game (5.7).

- The Concordia men’s track and field team recently finished in a tie for third place at the Cobber Dual Meet. The Cobbers posted a 3-1-1 record for the meet, which is their best overall mark at the competition since the 2001-02 season when they went 4-1.

 Concordia senior Nick Myran (Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) made a successful debut in the 2005 indoor season. Myran won the 3,000 meters at the Cobber Dual Meet last weekend. He was running for the first time all season after sustaining an injury playing intramural basketball. His time of 8:56.84 won the event by over 20 seconds. It is already one of the five fastest times in the event in the conference this season.

- Concordia will host five different collegiate events during the 2005 indoor season. That will culminate when they host the 2005 MIAC Indoor Championship Meet on March 3-5. It will mark the second time in the history of the event that the Olson Forum will be host to the conference meet. The Cobbers last hosted the indoor championship meet in 1997.
 

Women's Track and Field Recent Results: Cobber Pentathlon - Recap; 1st Place at Cobber Duals - Recap Upcoming Events: hosts the Cobber Open on Saturday, February 5 at Noon Latest News and Notes: - The Concordia women’s track and field team won the Cobber Dual Meet for the second consecutive season and for the third time in the past five years. The Cobbers posted a perfect 5-0 record, and also captured five different individual events and two relay competitions.  - The Concordia middle distance/distance tandem of Jen St. John (Sr., Billings, Mont./Billings West HS) and Natalie Hanson (Jr., Rogers, Minn./Elk River Area HS) each captured two individual events at the Cobber Dual Meet. St. John won the 800 meters and the 1500 meters, and Hanson grabbed the title in the 600 meters and the 1000 meters. St. John’s time in the 1500 meters (5:00.09) is the top time in the conference this year, and her time in the 800 meters (2:24.90) is second. She also owns the top-ranked time in the 1000 meters (3:11.35). Hanson’s time of 1:40.86 in the 600 meters is also a league best.  - Four other Cobber women’s track and field athletes own the top marks in the conference so far this season. Besides St. John and Hanson, Angie Pfeiffer (Jr., Colman, S.D./Colma-Egan HS),has recorded the top times in the 200 (26.31) and 400 meters (60.09), while Alissa Bilden (So., Miles City, Mont./Custer County HS) has the top spot in the 500 meters (1:23.07). A pair of field athletes hold down the other top spots. Lindsay Kuznia (Jr., Olivia, Minn./B-O-L-D HS) has the number one mark in the pole vault (10-0), and Nicole Plante (Sr., Fort Benton, Mont.) has the best score in the pentathlon (2,917).

- The Concordia diving corps continues to be the top diving team in the MIAC. The Cobbers have three divers in the top five on both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving performance lists. Senior Emily Hall (Minot, N.D.) is ranked second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events for 11 dives. Junior Annie Cullen (Moorhead, Minn.) is ranked fifth in the 1-meter and third in the 3-meter and Bridget Bossert (Fr., Minot, N.D.) is ranked fourth in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events.

- The Cobbers finished the 2004-05 dual meet season by winning three head-to-head competitions. That is the most since the 2002-03 season when they won five dual meets. The school record for most dual meet victories in a season is seven. Concordia went 7-1 in dual meets in Julie Lucier’s first season as head coach back in 1999-00.
 

Wrestling Recent Results: MSU-Moorhead 38 at Concordia 3 - Recap Upcoming Events: at Jamestown Dual on Wednesday, February 2 at 7:00pm; at North Country Invite at St. John's on Saturday, February 5 at 9:00am Latest News and Notes: - The Cobbers participated in the Terry Haws Dual Tournament at St. John’s in the middle of January and came away with a 3-1 record. After losing their first match of the tournament to Concordia of Wisconsin, the Cobbers rattled off three straight wins to finish second in Pool B of the Invitational. Concordia then backed those wins up with a victory over NCAA Division II Northern State.  Concordia is one dual victory away from equaling their win total from last season. They are also two victories shy of posting the most dual match wins since the 1991-92 season. They will have a chance to up their win total when they wrestle against Jamestown on Wednesday, February 2 at 7:00pm. - Concordia senior wrestler Dennis Kline (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) is having the best season of his career. He leads the Cobbers in victories and currently owns a 14-6 record and has won eight of his nine matches since the Christmas break. He scored the only points in Concordia's 38-3 loss to MSU-Moorhead. He scored a 12-5 decision over Eric Roseen of MSU-Moorhead at 197 to keep Concordia from getting shutout against the Dragons. - Since there is no longer an MIAC Championship in wrestling, the Cobbers will hope to qualify individual wrestlers for the NCAA Division III National Meet when they compete at the Greal Lakes Regional Meet on Saturday, February 19 beginning at 9:00am at Augsburg College. The NCAA Division III National Meet will stay in Minnesota as it will be hosted by St. Olaf College on March 4-5.
