Young hockey team skates an ''outstanding" season
Concordia's icemen finished their season with an outstanding 13-10-1 overall record and an 8-5-1 in the MIAC conference. The Cobbers gave up their bid in the NAIA by losing 8-5 and 5-2 to Gustavus in final season action.
Jeff Frider, a sophomore wing from Hibbing, MN, was named Most Valuable Player for the season. He led the Cobbers in both assists with 25 and total points scored with 42 for the year. Lew Erickson, a junior from Roseau, MN, was named Cobber captain for the 1977-78 season.
Other individual statistics for the season were Ray Weisgarber, a sophomore from Regina, Sask., with 20 goals; Randy Beck, a junior from Puposky, MN, with 45 minutes in penalties, and Erickson with 20 penalues.
The Cobber team loses three seniors to graduation - Gary Samson of Hibbing,
MN, Jim Kallevig of Eveleth, MN, and Greg Simoneau of Mistatim, Sask. Coach
Al Rice said this means he must pick up a couple of defensemen to fill
in, but he is looking forward to next year with underclassmen who performed
so outstandingly throughout this season.
