Cobbers Drop Second Game of Series, 5-2 to St. John's.

Treavor Peterson Jr. Thief River Falls, Minn. Scored the opening goal in Concordia's 5-2 loss to St. John's.

Concordia gave up three goals in the second period and lost 5-3 to St. John's. The Cobbers blew a one-goal lead at the end of the first period to drop their second straight game to the Johnnies.

Concordia (4-5-1, 6-10-1) got on the scoreboard first when Treavor Peterson (Jr., Thief River Falls, Minn.) scored his third goal of the year at 7:12. Both teams had numerous opportunities to score in the opening period but were unable to crack the net. Concordia outshot St. John's (3-3-2, 8-7-2) 14-10 in an offensively-minded period.

It only took St. John's 1:41 into the second period to tie the game. The Johnnies took the lead for good at 4:10 when Jeff Smoleroff scored the first of his two goals in the game. They finished off the trifecta of goals in the period on a score from Shawn Knorr.

The Cobbers cut the lead to 3-2 early in the third period when Aaron Marsh (Jr., Summerland, BC) scored his seventh goal of the year at 1:49. Concordia continued to battle down the stretch but gave up a pair of goals 1:19 apart to lose the game. Kevin Willey scored at 15:34 and then Smoleroff added his second at 16:53.

St. John's held the advantage in shots. The Johnnies outshot Concordia 36-27. Jason Gregoire (Jr., Moorhead, Minn.) had 31 saves in the game in the losing effort, while Rick Gregory turned aside 25 shots to pick up the victory.
