12/1/98 Coach's 1998 Season Wrap-up

"Concordiaâs Cross Country team has improved dramatically over the past two seasons.  In 1996 the team finished last in the MIAC Championship and had only one runner at the NCAA Regional Championship, essentially finishing last of 26 teams that year.  Within the short two year time span Concordia has recruited some of the best young runners in the MIAC and the NCAA Central Region.  As those young runners further develop and with the addition of outstanding Freshman, Concordia looks to be a top team in the MIAC and NCAA Central Region starting next season. At the beginning of the season Captain Josh Lowman (Sr., Fargo, ND/Fargo North) stated that he hoped at least 7 of his teammates would finish ahead of him at the MIAC Championship but that he was going to push them to earn it.  He knew if they could beat him that Concordia would have an awesome team.  How true his prediction was."

1998 Preview

Second year coach Garrick Larson should have an improved level of experience on his 1998 squad after finishing 7th at the MIAC in 1997. 
Last year's Cobbers finished 12th at the NCAA Regional, their best finish in 13 years. 

Concordia's top returner will be Chris Goebel  (So, Albany) , who finished 29th at last year's MIAC Championship Meet.  Steve Edlund (So, Cyrus), Brett Ramstad (So, Fargo) and junior transfer Gabe Arntson (Fairmont) are also expected to play major roles.  Several freshman also have potential to strengthen the Cobbers' top 8,  including Dave Dahlseng (Cyrus), Jason Karls (Billings, MT), and Brian Klug (Alexandria),  all of whom have competed in state track and field and/or cross country championships.
