3/3 Zack Schroeder Participates at Nationals.

Zack Schroeder Jr. Wahpeton, ND Became the first Concordia to wrestle at the national meet since 1999.

Concordia junior wrestler  Zack Schroeder (Wahpeton, ND) participated at the NCAA Division III National Wrestling Meet. Schroeder received a bye in the first round in the 133 pound weight class before losing his second round match to Dan Flounders of the College of New Jersey 8-0. Flounders advanced  to the championship match in the weight class. Schroeder dropped a close 7-4 decision in the quarterfinals of the consolation round to Dorian Cast of Olivet College. 

Schroeder is the first Cobbers to compete at the national meet since All-American Nathan Reiff  placed seventh in 1999.

2/24 Concordia's Young Squad Finishes 4th at MIAC Championship.
Concordia battled through several grueling matches to claim fourth place at the MIAC Championship Meet. The Cobbers, who do not have a senior on their roster and only four juniors, were the youngest squad at the meet. Concordia was led by Zack Schroeder (Jr., Wahpeton, ND) who finished second at 133 and qualified for nationals as a wild-card partcipant. Schroeder, shaking off a season-long shoulder injury won a hard fought semifinal match 4-3 against Chuck Griffith of St. John's. He then went on to lose the championship match to Bryan Miller of Augsburg. For Schroeder it was his third straight year that he has been named All-MIAC. Schroeder is the first Concordia wrestler to qualify for nationals since Nathan Reiff accomplished the feat back in 1999. 

Aaron Swartz (Jr., Starbuck, MN) also received All-MIAC honors at 141.
He rallied to win the consolation semifinal by a fall, and then had a major decision in the third place match. Other Cobbers that finished in the top four were - Cory Winter (Fr., Cannon Falls, MN) at 149, Jesse Barnacle (Fr., Deer River, MN) at 157, Rory Olson (Jr., Wadena, MN) at 165 and Jared Sannes (Jr.,Crookston, MN) at 197. 

The future for Concordia is bright as all nine wrestlers that competed in the MIAC Championship Meet will return next year. The NCAA Division III National Meet will be held next weekend on March 2-3 at Waterloo, IA.

2/2 The Concordian, At Duals, preparations pay off for Cobbers

1/27 Concordia Wins Out on Saturday, Finishes Third at MIAC Duals.

Rory Olson Jr. Wadena, MN Went 4-1 with 3 pins at the MIAC Dual Meet. The Cobbers finished third.

Concordia won all three matches on Saturday to move their overall record in the MIAC Dual Meet to 3-2, and finish in third place. The Cobbers defeated St. Thomas 45-12, St. Olaf 35-18 and Carleton 47-9. This came after a hard fought Friday, when they dropped matches to perennial national champion, and MIAC Dual Meet winner, Augsburg and St. John's. 

The Cobbers were led by Zack Schroeder (Jr., Wahpeton, ND) who went 4-1 on the weekend at 133 pounds, and Rory Olson (Jr., Wadena, MN), at 174, who was also 4-1 and recorded three victories by pin. First year wrestler Pete Grossarth (Thompson Falls, MT) went 3-2 at 125, and Jared Sannes (Jr.,Crookston, MN) went 3-2 at 197, all three wins by pin.

The third place finish at the MIAC Dual Meet is the highest finish since the 1995-96 season when they finished third. The Cobbers will take a two week break before returning to action on February 7th for a dual meet at Jamestown College at 7:00.

12/05 Concordia Falls to MSU-Moorhead 31-6.

Cory Winter Fr. Cannon Falls, MN Won his match at 149 to open the meet against MSU-Moorhead.

Concordia started fast, winning the first match of the meet at 149, but then MSU-Moorhead took control and battled to a 31-6 victory. Cory Winter (Fr., Cannon Falls, MN) gave the Cobbers a 3-0 lead early, as he won by decision over Adam Toso 4-1. The Dragons then proceeded to win eight of the next nine matches and pull away for the win. The lone victory for Concordia in that stretch was put up by JakeWiese (So., Pelican Rapids, MN) at 184. Wiese decisioned Dave Roberts 10-8 in a tightly contested match. Wiese went on top early and then hung on for the two point margin of victory. The other highlight of the meet was the battle at 133 where MSU-Moorhead's Shawn Larson edged out Zack Schroeder (Wahpeton, ND). Both wrestlers traded leads, and Larson was able to wear Schroeder down in the late stages of the match to come away with the decision.

12/02 Complete Results From the 2nd Annual Cobber Open.
Concordia hosted the second annual Cobber Open, a meet that featured five teams and two other schools that sent wrestlers to compete unattached. Wrestlers from North Dakota State wrestling unattached won five weight classes, while the University of Mary claimed three championships. Darrick Gorder from Dickinson State wrestling in the 194 weight division won the meet's Most Outstanding Wrestler Award as he posted a 3-0 record on route to winning the 194 weight class championship. 

Concordia, with 13 wrestlers competing in the tournament, was led by Jesse Barnacle (Fr., Deer River, MN) who lost in the title match in the 157 division to Lance Wurm from NDSU. Concordia junior Zack Schroeder (Wahpeton, ND), battling an injury, advanced to the semifinals at 133 before losing in a physical match to Reese Boehm of NDSU. Schroeder fought through pain and eventually finished fourth. Cory Winter (Fr., Cannon Falls, MN) lost 5-3 in a tight fought quarterfinal match at 149 to eventual division champion Bo Henry of NDSU.

The Cobbers host cross-town rival MSU-Moorhead in a dual meet on December 5th at 7:30.

11/18 Concordia Wrestlers Compete at Augsburg Open.
Ten Concordia wrestlers competed at the 12th annual Auggie-Brute-Adidas Open college wrestling tournament held at Augsburg College. Several Cobbers made the semifinals including Zack Schroeder (Jr., Wahpeton, ND) who finished fourth in the 133 pound gold class. Jesse Barnacle (Fr., Deer River, MN) lost in the championship match of the 157 pound silver I class and Bryan Kvitek (Fr., Starbuck, MN) took third place in the heavyweight silver class competition. 

The next meet for Concordia is December 2nd when they host the Cobber Open. 

2000-01 Season Preview 
The Concordia wrestling team will feature a mix of young and old for the 2000-2001 season. Coming off a fourth place finish at the 1999-2000 MIAC Championship Meet coach Doug Perry will be hoping to blend all the ingredients together, and come up with a formula that will lead the Cobbers to the top of the MIAC. The Cobbers will be led by a strong junior class and followed by an impressive group of freshmen. The juniors feature four wrestlers who placed in the top four of their weight classes at the MIAC Meet. Zack Shroeder (Wahpeton, ND) lost in the championship match at 133 while Jason DuBord (Kindred, ND) finished third at 141, Aaron Swartz (Starbuck, MN) finished third at 125 and Rory Olson (Wadena, MN) finished fourth at 149. The freshmen that will be thrown into the mix will be PeteGrossarth (Thompson Falls, MT) who will compete at 125, Jon Kamrath (St. Paul, MN) and Cory Winter (Cannon Falls, MN) at 149, Jesse Barnacle (Deer River, MN) and Steve Peterson (Chisago City, MN) at 157 and heavyweight Bryan Kvitek (Starbuck, MN). Other newcomers that will be looking to make an impact are Dan Vulcan (Fr., Florence, MT) at 174, JakeWiese (So., Pelican Rapids, MN) at 184, Jon Lowry (Fr., S. Sioux City, NE)  at 187 and Jared Sannes (Crookston, MN) and Lance Mumm (Benson, MN) at 197. With the proven leadership and the wealth of newcomers all the elements are in place for the Cobbers to make a run at the top three spots in the MIAC.
