Football posts a 4-6 record, 4-5 in the MIAC
Concordia College defensive end Mark Hankel
(Sr., Mapleton, ND, Oak Grove H.S.) was named the Most Outstanding Lineman
(Stam Award) in the MIAC for the 2000 season. Hankel, who recorded 12.5
sacks this year, ended his career with a school record 36 sacks. Hankel
was also named to the All-MIAC First Team for the second consecutive year.
Joining Hankel on the All-MIAC first team were offensive lineman
Joel
Nelson (Fargo, ND, Fargo South H.S.) and linebacker Joel
Vettleson (Richmond, MN, Rocori-Cold Spring H.S.). Both Nelson and
Vettleson were All-MIAC second team selections in 1999.
All-MIAC Second Team selection for the Cobbers were wide receiver Adam Strainer (Sr., East Helena, MT, Helena H.S.) and defensive backs Dan Tollefson (Sr., Madison, MN, Lac Qui Parle Valley H.S.) and Eric Wold (Sr., Fargo, ND, Fargo South H.S.). It is the second time for Strainer to be named to the All-MIAC Second Team while Tollefson and Wold are receiving the honor for the first time.
Volleyball posts 18-17 record, 6-5 in the
MIAC
Sam Scariano (Sr., Billings, MT) was selected
to the 2000 MIAC All-Conference volleyball first team. Scariano was among
the league leaders in kills and blocks, and led Cobbers in each category.
It is the second year that Scariano has been placed on an All-MIAC team,
last year she was voted to the second team. The Cobbers also placed senior
Stacy
Davis (Wadena, MN) on the All-MIAC second team. Davis was second on
the team in kills and third in blocks. Davis was named Academic All-MIAC
in 1998 and 1999 however this is her first year she has received All-MIAC
recognition.
Men's Cross Country
Concordia finished in sixth place at the MIAC Championship Meet. The
Cobbers were led by junior Brian Stotts (Maple
Grove, MN) who finished 21st and missed earning All-MIAC honors by six
places. The top five Concordia finishers all crossed the finish line within
50 seconds of each other. The next meet for the Cobbers is November 11th
when they travel to Waverly, IA to compete in the NCAA Central Region Meet.
Women's Cross Country
The NCAA Division III National Cross Country Championships were hosted
by Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington. Concordia sent
their first womenâs team delegation to the national meet since 1990, and
returned home with a 20th place finish. Heidi
Brenden (Sr., Minot, ND) capped her Cobber cross country career with
a team-leading 44th place. Also competing were; Katie
Martin (So., Bozeman, MT) in 71st place, Heather
Brendan (Sr., Minot ND) in 141st place, Beth
Moen (Sr., Andover, MN) in 147th place, Lisa
Owen (Fr., Minot, ND) in 196th place, Heather
Shulstad (So., Fargo, ND) in 208th place and Emily
Judd (Billings, MT,) in 210th place. Coach Marv
Roeske was named MIAC Coach of the Year.
Men's Soccer posts 9-7-2 record, 5-4-1 in
the MIAC
Chance Buzzell (Jr.,
Anoka, MN) was selected to the MIAC
All-Conference team. Buzzell was a co-captain for the Cobbers this
year, and was one of the team's leading scorers on the season. He finished
the season with five goals and two assists, and helped anchor the middle
of a young Concordia team. First year goalkeeper Kris
Overby (Fargo, ND) was selected as Honorable Mention All-MIAC. On the
season Overby recorded 7 shutouts, one shy of the school record, and led
the league in shutouts and minutes played.
Women's Soccer posts 8-8 record, 3-7 in the
MIAC
Jordi Kortan (Sr., Moorhead, MN) was selected
to the MIAC All-Conference
team.
Kortan was a co-captain for the Cobbers this year, and led the team in
scoring in league play. She finished the season with 12 goals and 9 assissts.
It is the second straight year that she has received the award. First year
defender Abbey Rabine (St. Louis
Park, MN) was selected as Honorable Mention All-MIAC.
