9/16 St. John's Rallies to Beat St. Scholastica 2-1.
St. John's fell behind early to St. Scholastica, but rallied for a
goal in each half to win the second game of Cobber Classic III. St. Scholastica
went ahead at 10:52 when Neil Runbeck's shot was deflected and found the
net behind Johnnie keeper Kevin Kohnen. St. John's then went on the offensive,
and at 37:20 Mike Rutter finished off a pass from Brian McDevitt to equalize
the score at one. In the second half St. John's finally went ahead at 62:59
when Travis Miller found himself all alone in front of the St. Scholastica
net and scored when the ball rebounded off of a cross attempt. Kohnen finished
with 4 saves on the day and Saints keeper Jacob Lammi had 6. St.
John's extends their win streak to four and is undefeated on the year (4-0)
while St. Scholastica drops to 2-3-0. St. John's will play Nebraska Wesleyan
at 12:00 for the championship of the Cobber Classic while St. Scholastica
will take on Concordia at 2:00.

St. John's Soccer Notes:
The SJU soccer opened the 2000 season with three
wins last week, including two wins during a weekend full of matches in
Collegeville.
On Saturday, Sept. 2, sophomore Brian Cleavelend scored both goals in a 2-0 win over Northland. Kevin Kohnen and Kevin Bell teamed up in goal for the shutout. Kohnen made two saves in the win. The complete box score can be found at http://www.csbsju.edu/sjusports/soccertourney090200.html
The next day, Sunday, Sept. 3. SJU scored three second half goals to erase a 1-0 deficit and win going away 3-1. Freshman Joe Schmidt scored the game-winner in the 79th minute for the Johnnies. The Johnnies traveled on Wednesday, Sept. 6, to take on Northwestern of Roseville and came away with a 4-2 victory. Sophomore Jordan Pepper; senior Ross Golla; sophomore Travis Miller; and sophomore Mike Rutter scored goals for SJU.
