Season Outlook/Notes:

Macalester showed a great deal progress over the season's second half last year, going 4-4 over its final eight games, and is looking to improve on its 8-17 record in 1998-99.  The Scots began last year as one of the most inexperienced teams in the conference and ended it as one of the most improved.  This year they'll start the season with much more experience as the top six players all return for second-year Head Coach Mary Orsted.

Forward Karen Martin (Sr., Westford, MA / Acton-Boxborough) missed November and December last year while studying abroad, but will on around from the start this season.  Martin led the Scots a year ago in scoring (10.9 ppg.) rebounding (7.8 per game) and shooting percentage (.505).  Guard/forward Nora Anderson (Sr., Bloomington, MN / Jefferson) was one of the league's best free throw shooters (.800) and was the team's second-leading scorer with a 10.3 average.

Center Kate Stebbins (Sr., North Bend, OR) joins Martin to give the Scots good size and experience in the front court.  Stebbins averaged 9.0 points and 6.8 rebounds last season and led the Scots with 32 blocked shot.

Macalester's backcourt of Kelly McAnnany (Jr., Minneapolis, MN / Blake School), Allison Bell-Bern (So., Madison, WI / East) and Melissa Colbert (So., Amherst, MA) also returns.  McAnnany registered 63 steals, nearly twice as many as anyone on the team, and Bell-Bern was among the MIAC assist leader with 3.2 a game.
