offense to only 34 yards in passing offense for the game and only 216 yards
of total offense. The Cobbers found their offense in the second half and
were able to rack up 358 yards of total offense.

Concordia's defense led the attack, limiting the Dragon offense to only 34 yards in passing offense for the game and only 216 yards of total offense. The Cobbers found their offense in the second half and were able to rack up 358 yards of total offense.
MSU-Moorhead scored on the first drive of the game, jumping ahead 3-0 on a Clint Greer 42-yard field goal. Concordia answered with a 17 yard touchdown pass from Ryan Hebrink (So., Sacred Heart, MN) to Joel Ferrie (Sr., Moorhead, MN) early in the second quarter to take a 6-3 lead. MSU-Moorhead took a 10-6 lead into halftime, scoring on Justin Ellevold's 8 yard run with 3:03 left in the half.
The rest of the scoring belonged to the Cobbers. Another connection
from Hebrink to Ferrie, this one for 20 yards, on the first drive of the
second half put the Cobbers ahead 12-10. They sealed the victory with 7:15
left in the game, when Hebrink threw his third touchdown pass of the game,
an eight-yard strike to Jake Olson (Jr., Crookston, MN) to give the Cobbers
an In honor of the Power Bowl, three special awards were given following
the game. Ben Schermerhorn (Sr., Bagley, MN)
rushed for 95 yards on 20 carries, and caught five passes for 39 yards,
earning the Electrifying Offensive Player of the Game award. Andy Shaffer
(Sr., Monticello, MN) compiled five unassisted tackles and three assisted
tackles, and forced and recovered a fumble, earning the Electrifying Defensive
Player of the Game award. Robert Clark (So., Seeley Lake, MT) broke loose
on a third down and one late in the game for a 55 yard run, driving deep
into Dragon territory, essentially sealing the game for the Cobbers. This
run was named the Electrifying Play of the Game.

The 2001 Power Bowl, the 79th meeting between Concordia and MSU-Moorhead, sponsored by Moorhead Public Service and Missouri River Energy Services. Our Power Bowl sponsors, in addition to their contributions to the Concordia general scholarship fund and the MSU Athletic Scholarship fund, are sponsoring several awards in connection with this game.
"Power Surge of the Game"
A "Power Surge of the Game" award, along with a $500 donation to scholarships,
will be presented to the team that turns in the best play of the game.
MSU-Moorhead punter Cory Schmidgall turned in the play of the game on Saturday
when he boomed a 77 yard punt with 2:20 left in the 2nd quarter.
Most "Electrifying Players of the Game"
Plaques will be awarded to the game's most Electrifying Offensive Player
and Electrifying Defensive
Player. The most Electrtrifying Offensive Player went to the Dragon's
running back Justin Ellevold. He rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns.
He also scored, what proved to be, the decisive point by adding the extra
point on the MSU-Moorhead's last toucdown in the fourth quarter. The Most
Electrifying Defensive Player went to Concordia's Dan Tollefson (Sr., Madison
MN, Lac Qui Parle Valley H.S.).
Tollefson had two interceptions in the game and also combined for five
tackles.
"Touchdowns for Charity"
Power Bowl sponsors Moorhead Public Service and Missouri River Energy
Services will present a $100
check to a charity chosen by the scoring team for each touchdown. Concordia
has chosen Habitat for Humanity as the recipient of their donation, and
MSU-Moorhead will be playing for The Roger Maris Foundation.
"Power Bowl Traveling Trophy"
The presentation of the Power Bowl Traveling Trophy to the winning
team will take place in front of the stadium stands immediately after the
game.
