MIAC Championship Meet
Preview:
The Concordia men’s track
and field team is hoping that several great individual performances will
spark the team at the 2003-04 MIAC Championship Meet.
Ben Nylander (Sr., Lisbon,
N.Dak.) has been the most consistent performer for Garrick Larson’s crew.
Nylander has placed in the top ten in every race that he has competed in
this season. He currently ranks fifth in the 1000 meters and ninth in the
1500 meters among conference athletes this season. Joining Nylander as
a top contender at the conference meet will be Kyle Halliday (Jr., Willmar,
Minn.). Halliday holds the top time in the conference in the 600 meters,
an event that is not run at the conference meet. His time in the 600 meters
translates into the fourth best time in the 600 yards – which will be run.
He also holds the fifth best time in the 800 meters in the MIAC. Luke Draxten
(So., Fergus Falls, Minn.) will lead the group of field athletes for the
Cobbers. Draxten posted a height of 6-4 in the high jump in the first meet
of the year, and is currently ranked sixth in the event.

Preview:
The Cobber pentathletes will be looking to give Concordia an early lead in the meet. Renee Splichal (Sr., Garrison, N.Dak.) and Nicole Plante (Jr., Fort Benton, Mont.) are the top two rated pentathletes in the conference. Splichal posted a score of 2890 at the Cobber Pentahlon and was the first female athlete in the history of the school to clear 11-0 in the pole vault. Plante is ranked second in the event and finished fourth in the hepatathlon at last year’s outdoor meet. Sophomore sprinter Angie Pfeiffer (Colman, S.Dak./Colman-Egan HS) has made the most noise of the Concordia track athletes this season. She set a school record in the 60 meters this season and currently holds five different school all-time marks. She is currently ranked first in the 400 meters, second in the 200 meters and third in the 55 meters in the conference this season. Joining Pfeiffer, as possible point winners in the sprints, will be Amy Ravenhorst (Fr., Hollandale, Minn./Albert Lea HS) and Alissa Bilden (Fr., Miles, City, Mont./Custer County HS). Both athletes have posted times in the top ten of the MIAC this season. The top threat in the distance events for Concordia is Lisa Owen (Sr., Sr., Mineral, Virg./Minot (ND). Owen, an all-conference award winner in cross-country in the fall, is ranked fifth in the 1500 meters and ninth in the 1000 meters. If all the pieces can fall
into place for the Concordia women’s track and field team then the Cobbers
could make a run at their third conference indoor title.
