The Gustavus men’s hockey team returns 12 regulars and 17 letterwinners from the 1998-99 squad that finished with a record of 13-11-1 overall and 8-7-1 in the MIAC which was good for a sixth place tie.  The Gusties missed the MIAC Playoffs for only the third time in the last 15 years and Head Coach Larry Moore and his squad will have their sights set on returning to MIAC postseason play this year.

“Defensively we should be much improved as we return all the defensemen and a super goaltender. The offense will be the question mark,” according to Moore.  The key defensive returners are seniors Brad Hendrickson (9g, 8a, 17 pts) and Dave Murphy (3g, 10a, 13 pts). along with junior Ben Puder and sophomore Brian Westland.  In addition, the squad returns two-year starter Peet Moseley in goal.  Moseley has started all but two games in goal for the past two seasons and will be one of the top goaltenders in the league.

Offensively, the Gusties lost three of the team’s top four scorers including All-MIAC forward Mike Hoolihan (16g, 12a, 28  pts), forward Andy Tripp (11g, 12a, 23 pts) and forward Matt Grabow (10g, 10a, 20 pts).  Key returners include senior co-captain Matt Tuccitto who finished third on the team in scoring last year with seven goals and 16 assists for 23 points, junior Josh Kramer (13g, 4a, 17pts), junior Nick Hendrikson (3g, 6a, 9 pts) and sophomores Nick Christenson (4g, 6a, 10 pts) and Luke Weekly (3g, 6a, 9 pts).  Key additions include sophomore Mike Formas, a transfer from Lake Forest College and Aaron Allar, an all-conference player from Minnetonka.
